1. Open a grayscale
image in Photoshop, and name it Layer 0.

| 2. Select Filter >
Artistic > Cutout.
Adjust the settings
as desired. TIP: You
can also achieve a
similar, more detailed
effect by choosing
Image > Adjustments
> Brightness/Contrast.
Set Contrast percentage
to 100 and adjust
Brightness until you
get the look you want. |  |
| 3. Choose Select >
Color Range and set
Fuzziness to 200.
Click on the black of
the image to select. |  |
| 4. Set Image > Mode
to CMYK before placing
a colored pattern
into the file. (We used
one created in Illustrator.)
With Layer 0
selected, click the Add
layer mask icon in the
Layers palette. |  |
| 5. Drag in your pattern
and hit Return.
Option-click on the
line between Layer 0
and Layer 1 until you
see the Create clipping
mask icon. Click
on it to mask your
pattern. (We also
created a white background
layer and set it
below all other layers.) |  |
