April/May 2005
Color on Call” illustration by Kirk Manley, Feb/Mar 2005, V10N1
1. Open your image in Photoshop, and name it Layer 1. Make a copy of Layer 1 by dragging it to the Create a new layer icon.

2. Select Layer 1 copy and choose Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. Click on Filter > Stylize > Find Edges.
3. Select Image > Adjustments > Brightness /Contrast. Use the values shown. Click OK.
4. Drag Layer 1 copy below Layer 1, and select Layer 1. Click the Add layer mask icon. Press d to set Mask Default colors, then x to inverse them, so that black is the foreground color.
5. Select the Gradient Tool. In the Options bar at top, use the settings shown. Starting at the tip of the plug, drag the cursor to the middle of the cord.
6. Select Layer 1 copy. Click the Add a layer style icon, selecting Gradient Overlay from the drop-down menu. Adjust the options as shown, then click the gradient bar to open Gradient Editor.
7. In the resulting dialog box, select Noise from the Gradient Type drop-down menu and click Randomize under Options until you get a gradient you like. Creatas Image 15329-22IL.
