How'd They Do That? - Halftone Border
In just a few minutes you can create a halftone border in Photoshop.
April/May 2006
1. In Photoshop, choose the image you’d like to apply the effect to. It’s a good idea to have extra canvas space. Select Image > Canvas Size and add about 1 inch to each side.
2. Using the Marquis tool, select part of the image. For this image, we chose to use the Elliptical Marquis tool, but you can choose any shape. Choose Select > Inverse.
3. Double-click the Edit in Quick Mask Mode icon in the toolbar. Make sure Masked Areas is selected to turn the selection red.
4. You are now ready to apply the filter. Select Filter > Pixelate > Color Halftone. Use the settings shown for our 300 dpi image or experiment with your own. Press OK.
5. Press Q on your keyboard to disable the Quick Mask. Press Delete to remove your background.
